New CD release

Schubert, Webern, Mahler with Kent Nagano

The new CD by the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra with Kent Nagano was released in June 2024. The recordings, which were made in 2021 in the Laeiszhalle and the Elbphilharmonie, are available from FARAO classics. "The Schubert-Mahler-Webern triad contains an important piece of music history that we can perceive here, as if under a magnifying glass, in the way the works are interwoven," says Kent Nagano, explaining the idea. "It is part of the history of Romanticism in its late phase, how it shimmers in new colours at the tipping point to modernism."

Award ceremony on 29 September

Brahms Prize for Kent Nagano

The Brahms-Gesellschaft Schleswig-Holstein is awarding this year's Brahms Prize to Kent Nagano: "In recent years in particular, as GMD of the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, he has increasingly focussed on Johannes Brahms and opened up new perspectives on the work of the North German composer. In Kent Nagano's personality, the spirit of discovery and the joy of innovation are combined in an unusual way with a clear view of the dignity of our cultural heritage." The Brahms Prize will be awarded on 29 September 2024 at 7.30 pm in St. Bartholomew's Church in Wesselburen. Kent Nagano will be accompanied by the Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra, which will perform works by Johannes Brahms and Richard Strauss under his baton and in his honour.
